Obituary
Russell M. Sims was born December 16, 1966, in Tucker, Arkansas. He was the 1lth child born to the late Wheeler and Younita Sims. Following the death of his parents, he moved to Little Rock, Arkansas to live with family. Russell is a graduate of Central High School where he was a member of the ROTC, Central High School Band as a Saxophonist, and the Rifle Team. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Internet Management and E-Business from Limestone College.
Russell gave his life to the Lord at an early age, and he was actively involved in various ministries throughout his life. He was a member of Christ Tabernacle Church, Jackson, Mississippi, where he was involved in the Media Ministry.
Russell was a member of the United States Navy, U. S. Submarine Forces where he was the Nuclear Weapons Handling Supervisor for various submarines. He honorably served his country from April 1985 to July 1997.
Russell was a gentleman, a peaceful person, always courteous and kindhearted. He enjoyed woodworking, building things, barbecuing and grilling as well as gardening, and he was a big fan of the Seattle Seahawks.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Walter Sims, and a sister, Arthalia Akins.
Russell's memories are cherished by his wife of 12 years, Yvoner Sims. Three sons: Matthew (Mallorie) Sims of AR, Zachary Sims of SC, and Cornelius Mitchell of MS. Two daughters: Cynthia Mitchell of MS and Yvonne (Angela) Washington of LA. Three brothers: Wheeler (Cheryl) Sims, Jr. of AR, Wayne (Phyllis) Sims of AR, and Michael (Herry) Sims of the Philippines. Six sisters, Kathy Howse of AR, Veolia Gibson of GA, Margaret Haygood of TX, Janice Scott of GA, Jacqueline (Gregory) Thomas of GA, and Nita Chaney of GA. A brother-in-law, Lorenzo Akins of AR, and a sister-in-law, Bernice Sims, of TX. An uncle, Otto Ross Il of MO; 16 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
